2. Complete study guide questions chapters 13-15 To Kill A Mockingbird
3. Read and discuss chapters 16-17 in TKAM
4. Journal Collection #1-10 on 10/29 or 10/30!! Journals count for 10% of your first quarter average!
5. First Quarter Project-Collage Project on TKAM. Completed projects due on 10/31 or 11/3! Make good use of your class time!! What ever you do not finish in class, you will need to complete by the due date! This project counts for 20% of your first quarter average! Be RESPONSIBLE!

English 9 and English 10 reminders

The end of the 1st quarter is fast approaching. Here is a reminder of how your average is calculated every marking period:
1. Homework/classwork= 25%
2. Quizzes/tests=25%
3. Quarter Project=20%
4. Journals=10%
5. Participation=10%
6. Attendance=10%

Remember, doing your best in each area will produce the best average as well as a super English student! GOOD LUCK!!

English 9: Week of October 20-24

1. Journal # 10 (How do superstitions change people's behaviors? Explain.)
2. Vocabulary for "The Cask of Amontillado"
3. Introduction to Edgar Allan Poe- take notes on listening passage based on Poe's life and write a 2 paragraph biographical response using your notes discussing Poe's life.
4. Overhead notes on Poe's Writing Style
5. Read and continue to discuss Poe's life pp.194-196 in textbook
6. Read "The Cask of Amontillado" pp. 207-216. Discuss. Answer questions p. 216 #1-3
7. Read "The Letter to Maria Clemm" p. 205-206 and answer questions p. 206 #1-3 and read "Annabel Lee" pp199-200 and answer questions p. 200 #1-4.
8. Respond in 1 paragraph: In the heat of the moment, have you ever felt like getting even? Explain.

English 9: Week of October 13-17

1. Guidance presentation on PSAT info and materials
2. Quiz on "The Scarlet Ibis"
3. In class essay assignment: Choose one essay topic to respond to in 4 paragraphs:
-Have you ever been caught between a rock and a hard place? Have you ever found yourself in a position where you had to make a difficult choice? The narrator in "The Scarlet Ibis" makes many choices. In a four paragraph essay, describe 2 experiences and/or choices you had to deal with that may not have only affected your life, but also the lives of everyone around you.
OR
-The narrator in this story says, "there is within me...a knot of cruelty borne by a stream of love." Think about your relationships with the people you love, especially in your family. Can love and cruelty exist at the same time? Why or why not? Explain and support your opinion in a 4 paragraph essay response.
4. SSR #6 and complete reading log #6 at end of week
5. Prepare for journal collection within 2 weeks! Collection will be for entries #1-10!

English 10: Week of October 13-17

1. TEST on Part One (Chapters 1-11) of To Kill a Mockingbird
2. Journal #8 (Atticus said that real courage is knowing you are "licked before you even try" and seeing things "through until the very end." Do you agree with his statement? Explain.)
3. Read and discuss Chapter 12 TKAM
4. SSR #6 and complete reading log #6

3. Journal #7 (Predict and explain your grades for each of your classes at the five week point.)
4. Character Description assignment: Choose a character and write a detailed 2 paragraph description including physical traits, personality characteristics, actions and behaviors to this point in the story.
5. Review for the TEST on Part One (chapters 1-11) of TKAM next week on Tuesday, Oct.14/Wednesday, Oct.15. This TEST is worth 100 points so BE PREPARED!
6. SSR# 5-complete reading log #5

English 9 :Week of October 6-10

1. Library orientation -check out a novel for SSR
2. Notes on Symbolism, Point of View, Foreshadowing
